Recently went to NOPA and had a great dinner! The Black Cod was fabulous; perfectly cooked, moist and flavorful (as falvorful as Black Cod can be!). Be sure you go early or call for reservations as it is VERY popular...9/4/09.
No patience for reservations at A16 or Tipsy Pig? Try Mezes just a couple of doors away from A16. This Greek/Medit restaurant offers primarily small plates (Mezes) that make for excellent sharing. Highly recommended are the Maroulosalata (Zucchini cakes) and the chicken souvlaki. The souvlaki comes on two skewers with onions and tomatos and makes a great snack the next day if you can't eat it all. Also excellent are the lamb chops which come with a flaming skewer of rosemary. The Baklava is great for dessert along with several other choices. 9/6/09
A NEW FAVORITE! Check out Bar Bambino on 16th at Capp. Intimate and chicly "dressed" this is a "feel good" place when you walk in the door. They also have a covered patio that faces south and is perfect for a fall San Francisco day. The eggplant "meatballs" with raisins and pine nuts were sensational. A seasonal salad of grilled peaches wrapped in proscuitto was fresh and delicious. You can get a generous bowl of olives as an appetizer and the panna cotta with honeyed plums was definitely worth the calories! Monday night suppers and box lunches are coming...Check it out at www.barbambino.com. 9/14/09
OLD FAVORITE: Cappanino on Union St. was packed on Saturday night with every demographic. They had a special truffle menu with the owner coming around to tables with two lovely, large black truffles to tempt! Our table stuck with the regular menu which has a nice variety of meat, fish, poultry and pasta. The standout amongst the main courses was the salmon with a pesto crust which was perfectly grilled and accompanied with baby artichokes and olives. An excellent tiramisu finished off the evening. Cappanina offers and excellent selectio of Italian wines, cheeses and dessert wines. 9/14/09
